SUMMARY:2019 BCIL Marie Feltin Award Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This event honors individuals and institutions who exemplify the pioneering spirit of the late DR. MARIE FELTIN\, a tireless advocate for disabled and chronically ill patients. Marie was a founder of Boston’s Community Medical Group\, East Boston Health Center’s Home Care Program and the Urban Medical Group\, neighborhood healthcare services that focused on encouraging patients to become actively involved in their care as a critical means to bettering their health. Marie was always available for her patients and was a modern day pioneer in providing medical care to society’s most neglected and vulnerable populations. The ceremony is held in support of BCIL\, and as a tribute to Marie’s legacy\, which epitomizes BCIL’s mission of empowering individuals with disabilities to take control of their lives and live independently. BCIL promotes the CIVIL RIGHTS of all people with disabilities and our ENERGIZED ADVOCACY and SERVICES support and help create EQUAL ACCESS to healthcare\, affordable housing\, accessible transportation\, and ADA compliance for thousands of Greater Boston residents each year\, leading many to jobs\, an education\, and SELF-SUFFICIENCY for themselves and their families. \nFor information on this years honorees and how to buy tickets to this event click here.

SUMMARY:Celebration of the Reintroduction of the Disability Integration Act to the 116th Congress!
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Boston Center for Independent Living to Celebrate the Reintroduction of the Disability Integration Act to the 116th Congress! \nTo celebrate the DIA’s introduction to the 116th Congress\, the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) and ADAPT will be holding a celebratory introduction event in Washington\, D.C. Video and audio of the introduction event will be available. We hope you’ll join us\, because we have reason to celebrate: NCIL\, ADAPT\, and other leaders in the disability community have set an expectation that the House of Representatives will pass the DIA before the ADA’s next anniversary (July 26\, 2019). And this is completely achievable! The DIA has already garnered an incredible amount of support\, with 143 co-sponsors in the House and 25 co-sponsors in the Senate. And that’s in addition to nearly 800 organizations signing onto the DIA supporter list. \nLearn more about DIA at www.disabilityintegrationact.org \nWhen: Tuesday\, January 15\, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm\nWhere: BCIL – 60 Temple Place\, 5th Floor\, Boston\nAgenda:\n2:00 pm Discussion of the Disability Integration Act and letter writing to Senators Markey and Warren and MA Congresspersons on why DIA is important\n3:00 pm We will link in to a live stream of the event occurring in Washington DC hosted by NCIL and ADAPT \nLight refreshments will be served. We ask that you RSVP to Susan at ssmith@bostoncil.org or 617-338-6665. Also contact her for reasonable accommodations by January 10.
