Virtual Social Groups @ BCIL

To address social isolation among consumers, especially during social distancing rules due to the covid-19 virus, we will be hosting virtual social groups for consumers of BCIL. These groups will further the Independent Living goals of participating in social and recreational activities, increasing social contacts, and improving communication for consumers by bringing them together remotely. This will also serve to strengthen the disability community and empower consumers by helping be part of that community.

We will offer 3 groups: Art Group, Games Group, and Pet Appreciation Group

These groups will rotate on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm.

• Art Group 4/14/2020, 4/23/2020

Theme: Growth – “Planting the Seeds”

Using either sketch.io combined with screen share, or materials from home, consumers are invited to make art surrounding this theme.

• Games Group 4/16/2020, 4/28/2020

                Game: “Drawful 2”

Drawful 2 is a game that can be played using one PC and up to 8 separate devices (such as smart phones, tablets, or even PCs). Game play consists of drawing prompts anonymously using your smartphone, which the group tries to

guess the meaning of (sort of like Pictionary). Everyone votes on which description is best and points are given out based on which are the most popular.

One staff member shares the game on screen, and up to 7 others join using their smartphone. Any additional participants can join the ‘audience’ from their phones as well.

Consumers are invited to share pictures of their pets, as well as feature their pets on camera.
