Save the AAB! Action

November 1, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

What: Save the AAB! Action 11-01 3-6 pm

When: 3-6 pm. We will gather at the 4th floor café at 2:45 pm

Where: Governor’s Office, State House

Event Info/About Section: Last week we showed up at Governor Baker’s office to demand the AAB keep its independence to ensure architectural accessibility in MA. We told him we’d be back if he wasn’t willing to meet with us. Please join us!

The AAB is an independent authority ensuring access to housing, businesses, schools and stores for people with disabilities. For 50 years, the AAB’s executive director was chosen by the board; however, the Baker administration has given the hiring power to the Department of Professional Licensure (DPL). This undercuts the independence, integrity and efficacy of the board to uphold the civil rights of people with disabilities. The DPL has unilaterally changed the job description of the director to require that it report only to their department. This undermines the AAB’s ability to enforce our civil rights.

We have two demands for the governor:
1.) That the AAB be allowed to hire their new director
2.) That the job description require the AAB director to report to the board of the AAB and NOT to DPL

If you are able to come:
• We will gather at the 4th floor café of the State House at 2:45 p.m.
