Rally for Repairs
July 14 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Event Navigation
Through private equity acquisitions, the two national wheelchair providers — Numotion and National Seating & Mobility — have spent the last two decades buying up smaller regional competitors, creating a duopoly with unchecked power where profits are prioritized over people.
Those bearing the consequences are wheelchair users who wait weeks and months for repairs — stuck in unsafe chairs or trapped in their homes, unable to get to work, school, medical appointments, community events, or sometimes even move around their own homes.
Independence is lost. Health suffers. Quality of life deteriorates. When a wheelchair breaks, life shouldn’t come to a halt. Reflecting on his experience trying to get his wheelchair repaired, BCIL staff member Franklin Pineda Lopez said, “I have been treated to feel like a lesser human.”
The situation has become intolerable, and now is the time to unite, shine a light on this crisis, and demand accountability from those profiting while wheelchair users wait.
Join wheelchair users, family members, disability advocates, and allies on Tuesday, July 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., outside South Station in Boston.
If you are interested in attending, it would help if you could fill out our optional RSVP form and survey: tinyurl.com/Rally4Repairs.
Let’s come together in numbers to make our presence felt and our voices heard. Please save the date and share as widely as possible. This moment cannot wait.
