Options Counseling
Options Counseling is a service that provides people with disabilities of any age, as well as seniors 60 and over, with the information they need to live independently in their community. Options Counseling is available at no-cost, regardless of disability or income. Options Counselors are trained to work with consumers, family members and/or significant others to connect consumers to vital resources and services that fit their current situation and preferences and allow consumers to stay in their homes.
Options Counseling is appropriate for consumers who are in a nursing home, hospital, rehab, medical or other long term care facility. It is also appropriate for consumers who are currently living in their own home but are concerned that they may not be able to stay due to age or disability.
Options Counselors can meet with consumers and provide:
-
- Unbiased information about long-term services and supports
- Assistance with referrals and resources as needed
- Information about resources available to pay for the services
- Follow-up and help with planning next steps
The Options Counseling program is provided at no-cost to consumers, and is funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. It is offered through the Suffolk County and Metro Boston Aging and Disability Resource Consortium of non-profit disability and elder service organizations.
